No negative nancy over here.. finally.

So with all my depressing posts lately I figured I’d switch it up a bit.. Things are going well (besides all my bullshit drama I create for myself) for a change.

My progress at the gym is getting better and better. Probably because the more leaner I get the easier it is for me to stay motivated. I had a long talk with my IG friend Jenna about getting upset when were working out when we feel disgusted with ourselves. I cant tell you how many times I have walked out of the gym, how many times I’ve cried at the leg press or how often I looked in the mirror and instantly became depressed and ruined my my motivation to continue. I’m not exaggerating either.. I have stopped mid set and walked out because my legs looked huge or my pants were too tight and my “muffin top” was noticeable. Then when anxiety sets in it becomes a nightmare and  may or may not turn into a binge that day, but it sure affects my attitude and my self worth. It’s a sad cycle to live, trust me.

However I think I’m over that phase right now ( I say right now because I have been doing this for the last 4 years) because I’m starting to see my progress. My legs are thinning out and I can feel my abs stubbornly trying to show. I have been eating pretty clean but allow myself to steal a french fry from my boyfriends plate or eat a serving of sorbet every now and then just to enjoy this whole process. I’m a sugar fein so giving myself a treat here and there is always nice. ( Speaking of being a sugar fein I allow all types of fruit in my diet I will only cut it out when I’m training for a show. Fruits can have a high carb count and be loaded with sugar but when I get crazy with working out anything whole natural and organic are all allowed).

I posted this picture yesterday on my other accounts and have been asked what my routine is.. So lets take a gander.. Lately I have been doing full body workouts however, I usually split it up by each body part training legs twice (a separate day for quads and another for hamstrings) but the thing that does stay the same is how I lift. I don’t train with a spotter but I try to lift as heavy as I can all the time unless I am super setting to exhaust my muscles (ie doing DB Bicep curls then taking a BB half the weight and knocking out as many reps as I can till failure).

photo 5

I do about 200 weighted lunges a week (again I train legs twice a week so each session I do 5×20 lunges). I squat a lot and as heavy as I can (front squat sumo squat errrythangg). I also use BW squats and lunges as my active testing. Meaning in between reps I’ll knock out 20 body weight squats. I don’t have a rep or set scheme I tend to get unmotivated if I have a goal of 10 and I can’t reach it so I usually always go to failure. If the reps become too easy I up the weight

For cardio I spin (bike) the stair master (don’t hold on!!!!!) and always an incline on the treadmill. Cardio times always change depending on my mood and how hungry and cranky I am however I don’t do less than 30 min (unless I’m super uncomfortable). During contest prep it’ll range from 30min to 2 hours (spilt up into 2 sessions of course).

My “diet”:

My eating is pretty basic. I eat anything whole, natural and unprocessed.

Carbs: Brown rice oatmeal sweet potatoes regular potatoes whole wheat pastas and Ezekiel bread.

Protein: Ground turkey ground beef pork chicken. Any kind of protein rather  regardless of its fat content (everything in moderation).

This is what our date night always consists of... MEAT!

This is what our date night always consists of… MEAT!

Any and all veggies and fruit!

Every Morning I have a protein shake with fruit and flaxseed. On Occasion I add 1/2c oatmeal to the mix. It’s easy convenient and usually tastes amazing (I use Dymatize Iso in Chocolate but currently have Gourmet Whey in strawberry banana and its awful). When I get hungry or about 2 1/2 hours later I will snack on either Greek Yogurt (Brown Cow is great and has the least amount of calories compared to Fage. Calories are important but I don’t count them its just why eat something I can consume for 1/2 of the calories and it tastes the same?). I have 100 calorie packs of almonds (because I could eat nuts all damn day), or maybe a serving of applesauce to hold me over. Next is usually a bigger meal around lunch time. It ranges from WW or Brown Rice pasta and ground turkey to Chicken Brown rice and broccoli. I sometimes get creative and make meatballs or something else but these are super simple to make and it is something I fall back on because I actually enjoy both dishes). Post work out I will have another meal containing protein (I don’t focus too much on the carbs here unless its leg day. Otherwise if I’m in the mood or just a little more hungry Ill eat a piece of E. Bread with PB). However when it comes to Post Workout a carb is SUPER important (its what makes you grow!!), as is protein so I’m sure to take in both. If I am up for more than a few hours after that meal I will consume a casein shake (casein protein digests at a relevantly slower rate which is great while you sleep).

fd

Post Workout Smoothie made with greek yogurt instead of protein powder.

Until contest prep I have 1-2 cheat MEALS (NOT DAYS!!!) a week, where I have basically whatever I want for 1 meal. I also eat a lot of nuts (almonds cashews) and peanut butter on occasion. The thing with food is the less processed the better for you. “Dieting” isn’t fun, but changing your lifestyle can be. Granted I don’t eat out at McDonald’s or consume high amounts of bad fat on the daily (lets face it carbs fat and sugar taste like the devil!) but I do enjoy the foods I eat to maintain the body I want. You just have to prepare yourself first mentality. Start with goals and work towards them and get up and move!

Like here.. shes my motivation.

Like here.. shes my motivation.

The hardest part is starting but you have to at one point right? My motivation comes from feeling uncomfortable in clothing which really puts me to tears. Though I have no one to blame but myself it’s a hard pill to swallow. Don’t be ashamed or embarrassed life isn’t as easy as people make it out to be but once you start seeing progress you’ll get more and more excited to be a healthier you. The rewards of being happy with yourself is a prize within itself

Nutrition FAQ

It’s no longer a 8 week challenge but a 6 week challenge. Yes, fml.

Doesn’t matter. It’s all good. It’s like exhausting being fat. No lie, I don’t know how people do it. I am no more no less 5 to 8lbs.. I couldn’t imagine being 50+.. I really hope that whoever does read my blog, understands that you can have whatever you want. If there is a will, there is a way. But it will either take money time or discipline. It’s hard work getting a body your proud of.. whether working out or eating and gaining weight (some people don’t mind being over weight. Too each their own).. I just preach about loving yourself. If you don’t like the body you’re in.. or the person starring back from the mirror.. do something about it. Change it… Work for something you DO want… that you ARE proud of. If not.. either deal with it or keep it to yourself. being negative isn’t good for anyone..

I have been receiving a lot of emails regarding weight loss and tips and here is the basic information again. Yes it has been posted before.. but 100 something posts and 100 something followers later.. 🙂 Just for a little recap/update so it’s a little fresh 🙂

liftlikealadee@gmail.com

Here, I am just going to focus on the nutrition part of losing weight, toning ext.. It will get way to complicated and I truly feel that the eating part of this lifestyle is extremely hard to stay focus with and we end up calling it quits after a few excuses as to why you couldn’t eat healthy that day… and trust me.. I have heard EVERY excuse known to man. I don’t really care what it is.. and if you really need to come up with an excuse as some sort of validation for personal reasons, then so be it, but you’re not hurting me. Those excuses mean nothing to me. What you eat doesn’t effect me, remember that. With that being said.. this isn’t easy.. you will need to prepare (or pay extra for it to be prepared for you), and you need to be patient. The years of damage that has been done to the body (of an over weight individual) will not magically disappear over night and this is not one lesson I want to learn the hard way.

Below is a list of the foods that should be the only items in your shopping cart. Now you CAN eat. I use to be really bad about carbohydrates in the aspect of thinking they were to blame on weight gain. Now, what a little education does to someone. I recently finished a nutrition class and realized that I was doing more harm than good. I do understand and base most of my nutrition off primal blue prints idea.. with eating like our ancestors, however they don’t allow grains. Now from what I have learned from school I am going to stick with my complex carbs and allow brown rice and oatmeal. It gives me more options (I don’t really care for sweet potatoes).. and they are not processed like whole wheat bread. Anyways, I want it to be known that YOU CAN EAT CARBOHYDRATES! BUT!! Yes there is always a but! You have to use these carbs. You can’t just sit on your ass and expect it not to be stored as fat (a calorie is a calorie no matter if it comes from a protein or a carb or fat… if you over eat it will be stored and cause weight gain). The best times to eat carbs are in the morning hours..1. This way you usually have enough time (from when your up to when you go to bed. Your body burns calories just moving. From eating to brushing your teeth). 2. Your body goes thru a little “fast” when you are asleep and you need to replenish glycogen stores (if you don;t understand anything, PLEASE GOOGLE!).. Another great and should be mandatory time to eat a carbohydrate is after a work out.

What is processed food?

The United States Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, Section 201, Chapter II, (gg) defines processed food as “any food other than a raw agricultural commodity and includes any raw agricultural commodity that has been subject to processing, such as canning, cooking, freezing, dehydration, or milling.” This definition establishes parameters for the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, to regulate quality and safety in the food processing industry.

“Despite these benefits, a diet exclusive in processed foods will almost certainly lead to disease. Our bodies are designed to eat natural, raw foods; there’s no doubt about that. Raw foods contain beneficial enzymes and nutrients that are destroyed through processing. Just because a pill contains the “nutrients” of a whole shopping list of vegetables doesn’t mean our bodies get the same benefit as eating the vegetables themselves. Nutrients, enzymes, and other components of the foods we eat work synergistically. We really don’t know how well they work when they’re isolated from each other, or when we ingest synthetic versions.”

“Eliminating all processed food is probably not going to happen for most of us. But we can make better food choices and supplement our diets with missing components. We can opt for the apple over the apple juice. We can choose a baked potato or salad over french fries. We can choose whole-grain bread over the white fluff that is passed off as bread. We can take the time to read food labels. Chances are, if you can’t pronounce it, you shouldn’t be eating it. We can choose processed foods with a very short list of ingredients; the longer the list, the more processing involved, and the more nutrition lost.”

So this isn’t bad is it? You can find some SUPER healthy yet SUPER quick to eat each day. I love stuffed green peppers, and black bean brownies. Below I am going to list a few websites where I wouldn’t be the same had I not found them via the web. They are all saving graces. The stuff these girls come up with is far beyond me but I appreciate it to the fullest. The recipes range from “paleo” to gluten to sugar free recipes (desserts, dinners ext), yet all so amazing. Again, it may take a little extra time in the morning ( I do all my cooking on sunday but yes when I am lazy I go to Whole Foods and get enough food for the day. I only recommend this because I LOVE WHOLE FOODS!!!!!! But it does get costly), but it is all for good purpose. I would hate for someone to actually be hungry.. because yet I get hungry pains (which try drinking eater first. They say your body thinks its hungry but really dehydrated. IF not at least you get a little fuller on water and will either wait a little longer to eat the next meal or will eat less if you do decide to eat).

www.paleomg.com
www.chocolatecoveredkatie.com

I will add more, so check back or watch for future references.

My products and what I use..

I use Dymatize in casein (cookies and cream) and their protein powder (elite gourmet- chocolate) as well.

Myofusion (chocolate) but the ORIGINAL FORMULA not this probotic BULLSHIT- tastes like heaven. So if you can find the original Myofusion in chocolate snag it. You want to drink a healthy motherfreakin chocolate milkshake…heres your chance!

NOT THIS ONE ^ #hateyou

For peanut/almond butters try and find one with almonds as the only ingredient (be advised that these are $5 jars lol).. if you cant do that ingredients should only be peanuts or almonds, salt, and some kind of oil.

PB2 is a great peanut butter “substitute” (I guess you’d call it. It is peanuts in powdered form. WAY less calories and fat.. but you have to either use it in that form, for baking, or add water to make a paste. Tastes great though! They have plain and chocolate flavored.

Nuts ‘N More is a almond butter (they also have peanut butter), but it has whey in it.. so for 2TBS there is 14g of protein!! and it really does taste amazing. They have plain and chocolate in both PB and almond butter as well.

P28 breads– In love. Nothing else I can say. Both items (sandwich bread and bagels) taste great, but the bagels are by far my favorite. It’s bread with 28 grams of protein..yep. and the bagel toasted….so.fucking.good.omg.

QUEST BARS– A “dieters” saving grace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not even kidding.. I am totally surprised this isn’t listed first (not that any of these products are in any type of order, it’s just these are AMAZING). They come in a wide variety of flavors and all are amazing, however some taste better warm (like the brownie one.. add some pb HOLY FUCK!).. but they make you smile. *Try to stick with the original line and not the natural ones (the natural ones have more sugar alcohols meaning more empty carbohydrates).

Larabars– These are great but should be eaten in the morning or if you really just need a sweet treat. They are made with dates and cashews or whatever they decide to come up with. My favorite is the chocolate chip cookie dough.

Most of these items you can find on: http://www.muscularinsider.com
The specialty products (like the nuts n more) can only be purchased via their online store.

Making sure you have healthy snacks around at all times is super important. I always get random urges to eat unhealthy (usually when someone brings snacks around, or the smell of pizza masks the room during lunch), and if I have something to snack on or keep my mind at ease, it’ll hold me over.

But in the end if you eat something shitty or overeat.. move on. Life is too short to give up altogether because of a few extra calories. Go work them off if they bug you that badly, but youre okay! I promise. Don’t allow food to control you. You are your own responsibility.

My food schedule 101:

I eat an hour after I wake up.
I eat every 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
I eat a carbohydrate only in the AM hours, and after my work out ONLY (Unless its a cheat meal).
I eat a protein in every meal.
I don’t skimp on fats either (but again I don’t track my macros. I become way too obsessed, so I eat when I want).
If I want it I have it.
No processed foods. No fast food. No added sugar products.
Cheat meals are once a week (Cheat MEAL not cheat DAY.. huge difference and a day full of bad eating will set you back at least a week worth of progress… so.not.worth.it).

I am not afraid to eat. If I want something I have it. Everything in moderation is key. You can still live and do the things you want to do and eat the things you watt to eat but you have to be smart about it. If you want to eat extra food or more calories then a normal day just know that you are going to have to work it off or don’t eat it. Unless you really don’t care then you probably shouldn’t be reading this blog in the first place.
I am becoming a little space case and can’t think of anything else that I have been emailed about or useful information.

This is what I know and what I know works for ME. I have been a personal trainer for aw file and have trained clients and aided in their weight loss. I know that a calorie is a calorie and a pound of FAT is 3500 calories. You do the math. If you don’t work out and over eat…. yes the pounds will be a packin lack in! And weight gain (unless is muscle) sucks dick!!!!!!!! That and it totally takes more time to take it off as it does putting it on. #smh.
lol.

Plain and simple.. stop eating junk, processed and fast food (the ingredients should be wholesome natural organic and less than 10 ingredients if it is so called “processed”).

Eat to live; don’t live to eat, every in moderation, and be patient 🙂

**** yeah.

So I know it’s only Wednesday but I am already excited for the weekend.. Regardless I still have a few days to go, so I suppose I should enjoy now, well.. right now!

Well first things first.. Yesterday was officially my first day back (in the gym) in 5 days! It didn’t go as planned but I still felt exhausted after it. People kept staring and my clothes were too tight.. and it was fucking hot.. and I was only getting hotter lol.. So I ended up just doing 3 or 4 shoulder exercises. Went as heavy as I could though.. So that is always a plus. I do want to mention to  jlgentry that I did a mile in just under 14 minutes (granted the first 2 minutes I walked).. but I started getting bad cramps .85 of a mile in lol.. At that point I knew I wasn’t going to handle going for much longer.. but a mile was SO CLOSE!! So I kept going.. Had too ..Pain is temporary –> failure is forever –> failure only occurs when you give up  = Don’t give up.… Right?

..any who.. I finished and walked on an incline for the remainder of the time. BUT I DID IT!! haha.. Yeah I could of probably kept going but I was trying to focus on anything but these damn cramps. My right calf started first, which I could handle.. but the stomach cramps are the worst.

Besides the gym, I have been doing really good with my eating. However like I mentioned in an earlier post that I am allowing myself whatever I want. I know the consequence.. and if I want it that badly, ill deal with it later. But for right now… it is working PERFECTLY! I am even starting to see my top two abs again (FUCKYEAHWHATUP!) and again, haven’t been to the gym in a week 🙂 So… with that being said I had 2 chocolate chip cookies last night. Lmfao. I was only going to have one but my mom randomly barged in my room and brought 3 more in for dude and I.. (awkward).. but I ate another one but left one (yes.. you read that right.. I LEFT A FUCKING COOKIE UNEATEN! Unfuckingreal. lol). I didn’t really think twice like I normally would. I remember years ago when I was working at  X Sport Fitness.. My mom had made cookies and I ate one.. or two probably.. okay 3 or 4 knowing me.. and immediately I went to the gym to burn it off. Fuck that. Never again do I want to be like that. Talk about hating yourself and I was fucking ruthless.

So I wanted to find a healthy PB cookie recipe.. and while I’ve been excited about the weekend and getting back into cooking and baking and shit, I saw on CCK’s blog a recipe for skinny vanilla cupcakes. They looked so cute unfrosted.. see:

Skinny Vanilla Cupcakes

(makes 9-10 cupcakes)

Or click if you’d prefer: Chocolate Cupcakes.

  • 1 cup spelt flour, or white flour, or Arrowhead Mills gf mix (145g)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ener g powder (or 1 flax or chia egg)
  • 4 tbsp xylitol or sugar (54g)
  • 2 Nunatural stevia packets (or 2 extra tbsp sugar)
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt of choice (Silk or SoDelicious both work) (230g)
  • 1/4 cup milk of choice (subtract 2 tbsp if using the flax or chia egg) (60g)
  • 3 tbsp coconut or veg oil (can omit, but the cupcakes will be a bit gummy) (36g)

Preheat oven to 350 F, and grease muffin tins. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl, and mix very well. In a separate bowl, combine all wet ingredients and stir. Pour wet into dry, and mix until just combined (don’t overmix). Cook 18-20 minutes, then let sit at least 10 before removing from muffin tins.

Okayyyy so they still look fanfuckingtastic.. but what about with Reese’s Frosting from CCK?

Reese’s Pieces Frosting

(Yields almost 1/2 cup)

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (or other nut butter)
  • 4-8 tsp pure maple syrup (click for a sugar-free alternative)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 4 tsp milk of choice (or more for thinner frosting)
  • 3/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • optional: handful of chocolate chips (the “pieces”)

Blend everything (including chips, if using) in a small food processor or Magic Bullet. If you have a bigger processor, it might be best to double the recipe so everything blends more smoothly. Best to store uneaten frosting covered in the fridge.

Or what about making my own cool whip.. Hey have I ever mentioned this before? Leave a open can of full fat coconut milk in the refrigerator overnight.. scoop the clear liquid off the top.. add vanilla.. coconut shreds (if you wish) and stevia..blend.. and there you have whipped cream!!!

Now do you see why I am so excited?

Oh.. another reason I am excited.. I AM NOW A SPONSORED ATHLETE FOR A NUTRITION COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell yeah.  Will go into further detail a bit later..

Life is going and I’m going with it..with a huge (mother) fucking smile on my face.

I can feel it getting better :)

It’s Tuesday.. meaning no where near the weekend, and I am okay with that. I feel my best on the weekends though 🙂 No one expects anything from me Friday night thru Sunday so I can’t disappoint.

I am one lazy motherfucker.
&& I have yet to workout (see.. point proven).

..NOR can I remember the last time I binged or exceeded my daily calorie limit!!!!!! fuck yes!!!!

I have been giving myself what I want, and when I do that I almost don’t even want ALL of it (this makes sense because if anyone is familiar with binging.. you eat till you feel sick. Now I don’t even finish these “dirty” foods.. Amazing how the brain works..When I am not allowed to eat something (during contest prep), this is when I want it the most. AND I DON’T GIVE UP TILL I GET IT! and when I get it I want more. I want more that second. I want more the next day. Vicious cycle, yeah?

Besides a downward spiral.. my insides start hating me. (TMI) but I spend a lot of time on the toilet the MINUTE I eat something shitty.. learn my lesson any time soon? Possibly…… HOPEfully.

So yeah, I actually don’t mind my body right now.. yes it could be better but without working out (and paying attention to what I put into my mouth) has actually done wonders. Again, it makes me FEIGN for the gym lol.

I think I am ready to go back today 🙂

Oh shoulders. How I miss you..

I’ll start posting work outs and my food log starting tomorrow.. Just wanted to update this little old blog 😉 lmao.. I really wish I could finally get a comfortable feel for this thing but I cant. I am thinking WAY to hard into writing sometimes.. I am not trying to impress anyone.. though I KNOW CERTAIN PEOPLE ARE READING IT!!! haha.. again.. another work in progress..

One thing I want to mention.. From my instagram (maristheshit) I get a lot of traffic from people with questions or comments.. PLEASE feel free to email  me:

Liftlikealadee@gmail.com

With anything that may pop up.. Feedback.. Questions about diet or training.. Anything.

..La de da… I made stuffed green peppers last night.. ADD

Stuffed Green Peppers

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup uncooked long grain white rice
  • 1 cup water
  • 6 green bell peppers
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
 Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place the rice and water in a saucepan, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and cook 20 minutes. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the beef until evenly browned.
  3. Remove and discard the tops, seeds, and membranes of the bell peppers. Arrange peppers in a baking dish with the hollowed sides facing upward. (Slice the bottoms of the peppers if necessary so that they will stand upright.)
  4. In a bowl, mix the browned beef, cooked rice, 1 can tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Spoon an equal amount of the mixture into each hollowed pepper. Mix the remaining tomato sauce and Italian seasoning in a bowl, and pour over the stuffed peppers.
  5. Bake 1 hour in the preheated oven, basting with sauce every 15 minutes, until the peppers are tender.

Taken from Allrecipes.com

So I copped this recipe from allrecipes.com.. I think it was the first one that popped up. However I knew the idea behind it.. I just didn’t know the temp times and what not. I didn’t add the Worcestershire Sauce or Italian seasoning but a taco seasoning instead from Whole Foods. I used Ground Beef AND Ground Turkey and forgot (or didnt know to do) the last step… lol.. I think they were talking about the grease from the meat..that I poured out. Hmm.. However.. I have yet to try them.. but I tried the stuffing part and it was AMAZING. Ate 1/2 of the leftovers last night, and saved some to fill a pita pocket (Ezekiel) that I got from Whole Foods last night. Excited.

Sorry about the last picture I didn’t want to take the time to crop it lol. && The last picture was before I put the cheese on it and before it was put into the oven (they actually looked liked shit when they came out haha).. but I am super excited to try them out today 🙂

Will update a little more tomorrow hopefully.

Birthday Body!

So.. it’s 2 months till my birthday, and I think I am going to do a little 8 week “challenge“.
..considering it has officially been 4 weeks since my bikini competition and I look like I shouldn’t be in one, lol. I figured this is a great way to start contest prep (I will start training for competition the week after my birthday), but I want to feel fucking fantastic for my birthday 🙂
..nothing too strenuous, nothing too life changing. Just a simple 8 week BIRTHDAY BODY challenge, YEP!!!
It will consist of:
1-2 cheat meals.
6 training days, 5 cardio days, and 1 off day.
1 yoga, 3x sauna.
A SHIT TON OF FUCKING WATER!
It will NOT consist of:
Added salt.
Added sugar.
Energy Drinks.
or Processed Foods (except Cheat Meals).
Pot Smoking <– (I KNOW!.. ugh!).
This is something that everyone can do. It’s simple yet SO effective. I took a before picture so I can track my progress. I don’t know if I’ll do a weekly progress shot but definitely before and after. Just watch what a few simple tricks can do for someone. Yes I am not “fat” or overweight by any means but 1. this will kick start ANY ones progress, and 2. you will feel fantastic! No joke.
The easiest thing to do is to just start by taking 1 thing away at a time. See how you adjust. See how you feel hour to hour, day to day. If you want to change your life, you have to understand it will NOT happen in a day. So take your time and be patient. If you want something enough, there will always be a way to get it.

Some sort of growth, right?

“When I see these pictures I often find myself thinking, what else have they had to give up in order to attain that physique? What relationships have suffered? What other areas of their life have they not had the opportunity to cultivate? What would that person ever do if circumstances (such as age, illness, some personal tragedy) turned the tide and they couldn’t maintain that image anymore? Would their identity be lost? Would others no longer be impressed by them?”

I recently saw this on someones blog, and holy cow.
I haven’t thought about my life without fitness or a healthy lifestyle till I came across that paragraph and wow was I lost for words.
My life has consisted of years of self abuse. Eating disorder after eating disorder. Diet pill after diet pill. Work out after work out.
This is all I know. I know weight loss. I know self hate. I know unhealthy. I know healthy.
Now.. I don’t know a life without constantly thinking about working out, hating myself, and food as much as I’ve lived this one. lol. Whatever I am doing.. surfing the net, posting fitness tips, pinching extra fat on my things, looking in the mirror, smelling a bomb ass slice of pizza, salivating over pinterest.. literally.. not a day.. not an hour.. not even a min goes by without me thinking about “fitness”.. So what would happen? What would change if I no longer could do the things I do on a day-to-day basis? What if I couldn’t work out?
The only thing I can pinpoint that I know 100% to be true.. is as long as I didn’t put on weight (or get what I feel s my uncomfortable zone) then I would try to make the best out of the situation.. but if the weight starting creeping and I wasn’t able to be active I think would ruin me. The idea of me being fat… FEELING fat hurts my heart. No joke.
Actually writing this out makes me sound selfish. Fuck. Seriously.. lets move on..
SO reading this on Friday guess what I did?
I had one of the best weekends of my life.
It didn’t start off so well but it definitely made me realize that I wouldn’t be lost without my fitness lifestyle.. that’s not something I focus on. It is literally my outward appearance. I NEED to look good (or at least THINK I look good lol). I like seeing collar bones and broad shoulders. I love having an ass but a flat stomach. I want my legs more defined… bigger even. Before I wouldn’t IMAGINE being “thicker” (I fucking hate that word). But in reality this is comfort. Healthy IS happy.
So, since I really don’t want to make this super long I won’t go much into detail (I ramble anyways so feel free to speed read).. I got home friday night knowing I wasn’t going to work out. I wanted to rest so that’s exactly what I planned on doing. I had saved these pre made smores the entire week and really wanted it right then and there. So what did I do? I had it.. Do you see a pattern in my decision-making? lol. So I was talking to my mom and she interrupted and said, should you be eating that?
Fuck. I literally snapped. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time she’s made a comment like this, however it’s usually when I really shouldn’t be eating it (during contest prep). So I suppose I could understand.. but what the f u c k ? It kind of hurt. I ended up trying to explain how I felt and she got weird and didn’t understand so I walked out and called her a fucking asshole.

1. Yes I was wrong for calling my mother an asshole.
2. This exact question, from her and an ex boyfriend, has started binges. Consider it a “trigger”.

We pretty much didn’t talk all night. I think she texted me something but my phone ended up dying. I passed out trying to charge my computer so it could charge my phone.

Saturday Morning..

.. I woke up feeling pretty good. I made breakfast, and cleaned up a bit. I had plans to go to Ribfest with a few friends but it was still pretty early (damn you internal clock). So I ended up putting a blanket outside and trying to tan. About 15 minutes in he calls me and I plan to leave within the hour. Everything pretty much goes as planned. I get to his house and we take the convertible down towards the city. tragic wasn’t that bad but I was stoked to be in the sun tanning with the top down lol, so I could care less. We see a carnival on the side of the highway and I made a comment about exes saying they’d win me a bear but I end up winning it myself. So what did he do? Took a detour parked the car and we didn’t leave the carnival till he won me a bear. Oh and eat a funnel cake too. So we hoped back in the car, got to the fest and pretty much gained weight. We ate fried oreos, ribs, more ribs and more bbq lol. After we walked around a bit, he got a few calls to go to the race track in Joliet. We dipped and ended up staying at the track for at least 5 hours. We drank margaritas and I ate someones french fries.. and popcorn. lol. Blahblahblah we end up driving home but ended up stopping at a friend’s house to drink. And drink I did.

Woke up in a bed on..

Sunday AM..

.. Up early as hell no hangover. Success. 11am his friend calls him to go with him and his gf to breakfast. We drive about 20 minutes to a breakfast place named Ellies (no pictures because phone was dead). I think it would have been a lot better had I known what the ingredients were like. They were fresh but wasn’t expecting it. Like for example I ordered a skillet with green pepper… however they were the huge peppers and not cut down (they were literally the size of a mini twix lol)… but then I took no joke less than 10 bites and I was full. I was just dehydrated like a mother fucker. So I just chugged diet coke and water (bad idea btw). We leave and get dropped off not knowing what are plans were next. I sit in the backyard and put suntan lotion on. He gets a call and we roll over to his friend’s house. Sun tanning and drinking for hours. It was so chill. Literally stopped everything to go to Trader Joes for Mochi balls.. lol…. I think in total we had like 8 boxes.. They were defiantly weird lol. After we bail we go back to his house and sit and chill till I realize that I wanted Cold Stone. So what did we do? We got Cold stone lol. Fuck yeah.
So. that was pretty much straight my weekend. Now.. this wasn’t anything special.. No, I didn’t win the lottery or get a new car. I didn’t work out once and I ate like shit the entire weekend (no I do not recommend this. One or two cheat meals a week. NOT cheat DAYS!) Yes, I wasn’t AS comfortable and no I didn’t really want to walk around in a bikini, but for once I wasn’t constantly thinking about fitness, the gym, working out or fucking protein powder. I was LIVING. As simple as my weekend was, it was unbelievably relaxing. I felt like I took a mini vacation from myself.

Fuck. It’s finally friday.

Life has been throwing quite a few curve balls at me lately.
..and usually I am one to throw in the towel, call it quits, say I don’t give a fuck, anything but actually roll with the punches.  You know, sit on the pity pot, cry myself to sleep while I ask “why me?”
Lol. “why me?” How ignorant.
Lets take something positive out of a semi bad situation.. I currently have a pending misdemeanor for a speeding ticket I got a few weeks ago. Granted this is going to cost me a chunk of change (lawyer, court fines ext), it has slowly (obviously) given me some patience, that I lack ever so badly. I cruise on the highway going 70 (usually a MINIMUM of 80 mph for this lead foot), sometimes even getting passed by semis but I can’t risk it. Not only that, what am I in a rush for? Life passes by quickly enough as it is.. I don’t need to hurry things along even faster. I think why I feel so “changed” is because I use to ALWAYS be on a schedule (working, eating, lifting), and there simply wasn’t enough hours in the day to please me.
Now, I am taking each little “life’s lessons”, and trying to see the good in all situations. I am such a negative person as it is and clearly it hasn’t been working out for me. I want to love myself, not put myself on a pedestal.
Random thought.. yes I have my little tangents.

The Food Log..

9am 2 slices of Ezekiel Bread w/Jiffy (not natural) <-- :(
12pm Ezekiel Pasta with lean Ground Turkey and natural sauce (only has 6 ingredients).
3pm Chicken and Veggies.
6pm (Pre Work Out)* 1/2c Greek Yogurt w/ 1/4c Steel Cut Oats (w/ 3 strawberries).
9pm (Post Work Out)* Ezekiel Pasta w/ Organic Butter and Ground Turkey.
11pm and later Casein shake.

*Pre Work Out (explanation) from Askmen.com

Pre-exercise meals should be mainly composed of “slow-burning” complex carbs, such as fruits, vegetables, whole-grain bread, rice, pasta, and cereals. Given that they are your body’s main source of energy, 65% to 70% of the total calories of your pre-workout meal should come from carbs. Complex carbs take longer to convert to glucose, which will keep your blood sugar level consistent and prevent you from having an energy crash in the middle of your workout. In addition, 15% of the total calories of your meal should come from protein. Because fat takes longer to digest, and therefore uses more energy than protein and carbs, it should be kept to a minimum immediately before a workout.Avoid simple sugars, such as candy, in the hour before your workout. They can send your blood sugar level shooting down, leading to a severe drop in energy.Another factor in deciding what to eat is the amount of time between your meal and your workout. A big meal of 1,000 to 1,500 calories takes three to four hours to digest and convert into energy, whereas a smaller meal of about 600 calories will take two to three hours. A small snack under 300 calories will only take about an hour.

Examples: Oatmeal, Bananas, Trail Mix, Whole Wheat Pasta.

The Work Out

Hamstring and Glute day, yay!
Starting off with Deadlifts (compound exercises should be knocked out first. These are the ones that tax your body the most aka take most energy.. deplete glycogen stores quickly.. This is also another reason why I don’t do much, if any, cardio on leg days).
I usually do 5 sets, 12,12,10,8,8 (reps).
50lbs + bar for 2 sets of 12 reps (or till failure.. if you can knock out another rep GO FOR IT!)
add 20lbs
70lbs for 1 set of 10 reps.
add 10lbs
80lbs for 2 sets of 8 reps.
Not supersetting this with anything.
Will however do 3 sets of calf raises afterwards before I hit lunges.
Calf Raises
3 sets of 45lb (10-12 reps).

LUNGES!!!!

5 Sets of 20 reps (WEIGHTED!!)
I think I might just stick with 20 lb Dumbbells=

100 (40lb) total lunges 🙂
POSSIBLY superset with 30 sec wall sits.

Finish with a lighter Good Morning (kind of like an awkward stiff legged deadlift).
supersetted with planks.
Would like to also complete at LEAST 30 Minutes of light (but elevated- on an incline) cardio on the treadmill.
Sauna if I’m lucky?

Post Work Out Meal (explanation) by Askmen.com
As a general rule of thumb, you’ll want to consume about 0.8 grams of carbohydrate per 2.2 pounds of body weight within 30 to 60 minutes after your workout. Any longer and you may miss your “window of opportunity” (the time period in which your muscles will benefit most from nutrition). You’ll also want to take in about one-third or one-half that ratio in protein or about 0.2 to 0.4 grams per 2.2 pounds of body weight. However, it’s not just the amount of these nutrients that’s important — it’s a little bit more complicated than that — which is why AM has decided to rank its top 10 post-workout foods for you to keep handy after you hit the gym.

Examples: Hummus on a whole-grain pita. Toasted whole wheat bagel with almond butter. Dried fruits and nuts. Tuna and whole-wheat crackers. Egg white and spinach omelet
Basically this is what I follow. I never knew how important carbs were to someones diet/body. It is almost CRUCIAL. What happens when you go low carb for awhile (or forever lol).. your body begins to think that its starving. “However, if there is very little carbohydrate in the diet, the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies. The ketone bodies pass into the brain and replace glucose as an energy source. An elevated level of ketone bodies in the blood, a state known as ketosis, leads to a reduction in the frequency of epileptic seizures.” – Wikipedia.
I know people have a misconception about carbohydrates, but we all need to understand that we can EAT carbohydrates, we just have to eat the right ones (and technically at the right time). Don’t be scared of food. Eat to live not live to eat. Try and stay away from heavily processed carbs (have TONS of hidden sugars) and switch to Whole Wheat. Its a SIMPLE change that has MANY benefits, and I promise the taste isn’t even that noticeable!! ….. ok well if it is, get use to it lol.
This weekend I will be sure to list the certain food products I have known to help in a healthy (organic/whole) lifestyle. Instagram has been a HUGE help in aiding my addiction to sugar and living a happy healthy normal life. I’m all for trying new things now!!!!
So follow me btw..

Recipe of the day:

Strawberry Frosting Shots
(or strawberry mousse)
  • 1 can full-fat coconut milk (Perhaps you can sub 1 cup soaked, drained cashews or macadamia nuts if allergic to coconut? If anyone tries, please report back!)
  • 2-5 strawberries (more will yield a thinner mousse)
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • sweetener to taste (stevia or powdered sugar)
  • tiny pinch salt (trust me)
Open the coconut milk, and if it isn’t yet as thick as in the above photo, leave the can (or transfer to a bowl) uncovered in the fridge overnight. (Don’t shake the can before opening.) It should get very, very thick. (If it doesn’t, you’ve gotten a bad can that won’t work for the recipe. I highly recommend Thai Kitchen Organic.) Once thick, transfer just the thick part to a bowl (leave out the watery bit at the bottom of the can, for a thicker mousse) and blend with all other ingredients. Stored uncovered in the fridge, the mixture gets even thicker.

I have been meaning to make “cool whip” out of coconut milk. I recently bought 2 cans and haven’t even touched them. I think it would be wonderful on pancakes on Saturday or Sunday morning. Mmmm.. Chocolatecoveredkatie.com <== LOVELOVELOVE!

Every great dream begins with a dreamer.

Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.

This quote is what I needed. I often find myself googling quotes all the time, and when I find one I like it usually hits hard. June 4 2012, is going to be the start of something great.
I woke up feeling great. Did really good last night but enjoyed someones company and over did the calories again. Though I simply don’t care. Today is where its at.
Marley licked my face to get up, however she waited for me to open the covers and her and I spooned for a few extra minutes 🙂 Gosh I effen adore her. Made it to work on time without speeding (go me!), but sat in my car while I stretched before I had to go waste 8 hours of a beautiful day (except I get to use the computer, score! Hence why most of my posts are posted between 9 and 5 lol).. and so it begins..

The Food Log..

8am Dymatize Protein Shake w/ a multi vitamin powder, PB2 and ice.
11am Ezekiel pasta with Turkey Burger and Natural Tomato Sauce.
2pm Chicken Fajitas w/ extra Veggies.
6pm (Pre Work Out) Protein Shake .
9pm (Post Work Out) 2 pieces of Ezekiel Bread, Greek Yogurt, and Almond Butter.
^possibly last meal, if not, casein shake would be what I consume before bed (it all depends how long I’m up for)..

The Work Out..

Didn’t do legs last night (shoot me! lol) but I will DEF kill it today. I am literally fucking STOKED! I for some reason have been driving without music lately and when I put it on I instantly think about putting my headphones in and going HAM!!! (I have NEVER used that expression before, hard as a motherfucker sounds so much better lol)..  So I am just going to copy and paste the work out from yesterday. I also think that I will do some LIGHT cardio (and sauna, hopefully preventing any HORRIBLE soreness lol that I know is inevitable).
Hack Squat
5 sets total 12,12,10,8,8
 Supersetted w/

Wall Sits
5 sets total 30-45 seconds each.

 Front Squat
50lb start, rep till failure
 Supersetted w/

Single Legged Squat
BW (BODY WEIGHT) 8-10 reps EACH leg

 Leg Ext
85lbs ^

Yes, I am going to start putting my workouts on the right of the page.. lol. like a boss.
..and to leave you with a WONDERFUL recipe from Paleomg.

Sweet Potato Brownies

Ingredients
  • 1 sweet potato
  • 3 eggs, whisked
  • 1/4 cup Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil, melted
  • 1/3 cup raw honey
  • 1/2 cup Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips
  • 3 tablespoons Coconut Flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
Instructions
  1. Time to bake that sweet potato. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees, use a fork to puncture holes all around it, then throw in the oven for 25-30 minutes. (I’m sure you could microwave it, but I like the ole fashioned way. I’m just so ole fashioned)
  2. Once your sweet potato is soft and cooked through, peel off the skin and mash it up in a bowl. And turn your oven down to 350 degrees.
  3. Now add your wet ingredients: coconut oil, honey, vanilla, and whisked eggs to the bowl and mix together.
  4. Then add your dry ingredients: coconut flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and chocolate chips.
  5. Mix well to incorporate all that goodness.
  6. Pour into an 8×8 glass baking dish
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  8. Let rest to cool a bit.
  9. Eat those b*tches. Try not to eat them all in one sitting. Like what may have happened in my kitchen….oops.

Post Competition: First Day Back!

Oh wow.

Probably should of rethought my first workout and possibly of done something else rather then legs lol. I have been stoked to get back in the gym and sometimes doing legs actually frustrates me. I don’t know what it is but whenever I go super heavy (which is all the time btw) I psych myself out. I really do need to find a spotter or someone to work out with that likes to go HAM! because I am kinda over the whole training people while I work out…. I want a KICK ASS workout 365! Hmmmmm I may possibly look into getting a personal trainer for myself, maybe once a week, just to rev things up.. kick my ass.. ext ext…. It gets expensive but having someone there and pushing you I feel is usually 75% better then being alone. That, and you get some extra knowledge! Personal training is something that requires a lot of information to be studied and I think it possibly will always be continuous. Meaning, since everyones body is different and we experience a lot of daily habits and we are now prone to numerous different types of dieases, that we will always need to continue our education in this field to stay up to par. Personal training isn’t just looking good and copying and pasting each work out for each individual client…. It is more then that (and quite frankly if your trainer doesn’t tailor your work outs, dump em.. no joke).

Ok I have no idea why I just rambled on about that.. which I think was actually about nothing. Cool.

Anywho.

The Food Log:

9am Green Smoothie that tasted like complete dick. I threw in a piece of pineapple and 1/4 of a banana (banana masks ANY taste), and a scoop of strawberry banana whey (didn’t have vanilla), and it still tasted like ass. I think I put too much “green superfood” in……….. but it was disgusting.

12pm 6oz Steak w/ 2oz Whole Wheat pasta with a slice of watermelon and 2/3 grapefruit 🙂

3pm Greek Yogurt

730pm Chicken and Veggies

9-2am– 4 cheese stix and 4 drinks. lol. fuck.

The Work Out:

Hack Squat 3x 90lbs
2x 110lbs

Calf Raises supersetted with Wall Sits

3x 50lbs w/ 30 sec wall sit

Front Squat

3x 10x 50

Planks- Completely half assed them.

Leg Ext

1 x 10 x 80lbs
1 x 10 x 95lbs
2 x 8-10 x 110lbs

Yeah I could NOT walk…. I can only imagine what I looked like.. lol. Today I am just hanging around. Life is started to get back to normal and I am super excited for my adventures in the gym in the next couple of months. I have a feeling I will be in the best shape of my life 🙂 Will start carb cycling after my birthday and actually pretty excited about that too haha! Everything else is kind of whatever. I am trying to get organized and all that shit, however my sister came home from college for a month and completely destroyed my room. I don’t have a place to put my shoes in my closet and for some reason finding a lot of clothes I never wore in the hamper… hmm.. Other then that, just taking life one day at a time. I put on some weight which I am learning to accept each day, but I know in the back of my head that in about a month I will be right back to where I was, and on a better road to being ripped. I will get there. Mark my word.

On to progress pics.. Should I do an entire blog, soley on the pictures or….. hmmmm.. lets see how much room it takes.. I’ll begin to upload the pics… lol… gotta love my procrastinating ass!

Okay I just posted all my progress pictures. You wanna see what I ate for this entire week????? Watch this shit..

&& this is what I look like because of this week long food-cation:

Sorry it was a screenshot via Instagram

So. As you can see I put on a little big of weight. For the next 4 weeks I will be having one or two cheat meals a week and continue to lift as heavy as I can. It will take me a solid 3 weeks to get back to how I was and I am perfectly ok with that! I have had SO much fun this last week, that the extra weight really doesn’t bother me. However I do continusouly feel like shit when I eat shit (coincidence? I think not). I am so ready for this.

oh btw..
