well hello there.. *waves*

So as you obviously may know it is not the 13th (the day I said I would return), but I just approved a comment from a lovely person asking me to not give up and continue blogging about my experience (and it put the BIGGEST smile on my face), so I just might.

I do have a lot 3 different posts that are just sitting in my all posts section either waiting to be posted or perhaps may sit unpublished forever (who knows). However I think it is a good idea to blog about my last week of contest prep since the last two are probably the most important.

In an unpublished post I explained my reasoning behind stopping the blog for a moment, but since this one will be sent out first I’ll explain again.. The reason I was put this blog on hold was because I had no time. The time that I did have in between other things, I was closing my eyes to try and get minutes of something I think people call sleep. This last week are my finals, so I had a 12 page paper due Friday. I wrote it but I never turned it in. Why? because I hate the teacher and I am going to take the class over again. I have a homework assignment due today (sunday), a 3 hour exam on Monday, a 3 hour exam (that I don’t know If I am going to for psychology) on Wednesday, and my sports nutrition paper due that Wednesday as well. Okay..so this is all happening around the most crucial part of competing. Not to mention I work a 9-5 at a body shop where all I do is babysit, but thats besides the point. I am at the gym at 6am to do cardio, work, class, back to the gym again for a lift and 30-45 min of cardio. You can tell I am drained.

So. Those are my excuses and I apologize. I did find time today (and after I read that beautiful comment), I decided to do a little update status. Granted I believe I will post a little more during the week, but please don’t think they are going to be as detailed as the last ones lol. I never knew blogging actually took as much time as it does.. Oh naive little Marissa.

ALRIGHTY!!!!! So.. down to the last week.

Progress Pictures:

Sorry.. my ab picture isn’t showing up.. its all upside down :/

..and yes my ass did get smaller…….

The Food Log:

I will be consuming spinach, broccoli, asparagus, chicken, ground turkey and MAYBE tuna. lol. But yep, hows that for a diet? lol.. and yes this is a “diet” my lifestyle however is NOT. please do not mix and twist my words. Diets suck. My lifestyle is enjoyable.

Check list: Bikini, Heels, Tickets, Bottle of Tanning Lotion, Sponges, Bikini Bite, Fake Eye Lashes.

Still Need:

  • Hotel Reservations.
  • Rental Car.
  • NPC Card.
  • Mac Makeup.
  • Hair cut/dyed.

Everything else will fall into place. This is what the rest of the week looks like..

Monday: Early Cardio, Work, Final Exam, Gym again.
Tuesday: Early Cardio, Work, Hair Cut, Gym again.
Wednesday: Early Cardio, Work, Final Exam/Paper, Gym again.
Thursday: Early Cardio, Work, Nails, Gym again.
Friday: Early as FUCK cardio (MAYBE), Tan, Check in @ USA gym, do nothing.
Saturday: SHOW TIME! Tan, Makeup, Hair, 1030am Prejuding, 5-6pm Night Show.
Sunday: PIG THE FUCK OUT!
Monday: Back to normal 🙂

So my life is a little hectic, but at least I found time to breathe right? Everything is going alright I suppose. The bikini is a little small for my doing, but I will just rock it anyways (spent $150 on it and its non returnable lol).. really just wanting this all to be over so I can go back to my normal way of living lol. I am just now always on a schedule and I have NO time to even take a step back and calm myself (which isn’t good.. stress= cortisol)..

but I have been thinking ALOT about after the show.

I am really hard on myself, and with my past of bingeing I have always let myself go after a contest prep. Some do, some don’t, but this year I won’t. I am healthier and stronger and wiser then last year. I did this just to do it, but NO award, no trophy, not even placing won’t do a damn thing to how I will live my life after all this. I usually ALWAYS need a reason to “diet”.. oh I’m  training for a show, or even it being the beginning of a new week, I just always needed a reason.. well.. not anymore.. Living how I have been living for these past 3 months has changed something in me.. something that has been wrong for awhile. I FEEL my work outs in the gym. I squeeze my muscles and actually feel the power when I lift the weights, it is so stress relieving. These endorphins are incredible. I love feeling how I feel when I am working out, or even just feeling healthy. It is SUCH a difference, and this is coming from someone who HATED themselves years ago. Time changes a lot of things, so does actually caring about yourself/body.

Anywho, that was a quick update for y’all.. I am sure I will be posting more (the last few days you don’t really do much but lay around because your energy is so low).. but I do want everyone to know that you can do this. Trust me.. it was 3 months of solid hard work, but when I show you these pictures that NO ONE has ever seen before (and yes they will probably get used against me some time in this cyber world which is OKAY with me), you will understand what I am talking about. I was FAT. No joke… and yes it wasn’t always rainbows and butterflies but this is the outcome of hard work. The food did not suck (just be smart, healthy doesn’t have to mean shitty tasting!!!), but getting up and HAVING to move and sweat and burn, did. Working out isn’t always fun and you sometimes may not want to, but the rewards that come when you do are so worth it. Just remember.. it didn’t take a day to put it on, so be patient.

Thanks guys for all the love and support. ❤

Day 81 I want carbs.

“Officially” 2 weeks out.

(“officially” because technically I am 2 weeks out on Saturday, but I won’t be working out or doing much of anything really.. )

How am I feeling?  Like I want to get this all over with so I can finally breathe and think about something other then myself.  Not even that.. I am stalking the SHIT out of people who are competing and currently dieting for shows, and I am continuously comparing myself and that’s the LAST thing anyone should do, competing or not. 2 weeks. I can do this. It’s been over 2 months, and I am bitching about 2 weeks left? I need to get my head out of my ass.

The Food Log/ The Workout..

I ate great all day, a little less then I would of liked in the morning but no big deal. I did “overeat” by eating a piece of chicken and 1/2 a turkey burger but I suppose it was 2 hours after my last feeding, so I’ll leave the validation there.

I didn’t do morning cardio, but I went to the gym with Taylor at 830pm.

We did a little chest, then went and did 4 rounds of jump squats, bosu jumps, and advanced planks.

Then finished with 3 sets of planks, and 60 minutes of cardio.

Day 81 in Pictures..

  1. After the kids went to school, I made breakfast at my bosses house.. (spinach tasted like ass).
  2. I had to fight like hell and fighting like hell made me what I am.
  3. Whole Foods- Second run of the day.. (first trip cost me $25 for lunch), this one was about $52.. Detox tea, lemon, cranberry juices are for the detox in a week… coconut milk (for amazing whipping cream later), and about 3lbs of meat 🙂
  4. Protein Pancake (Just muscleegg and pb2).
  5. 1000 followers on Instagram ❤
  6. Taylors doggie.
  7. My mom grilled for me while I was away burning calories 🙂

So today was a little long, tomorrow will be even longer.. Had to leave at 630am to take my bosses kids to school. Missed cardio in the morning, but I WAS DEAD. and you know what.. I don’t care, obviously my body needed it.. because I would of been up regardless of how unhappy I may be at the time. Anywho did my day to day shit and got home around 630pm because I stopped at Whole Foods to get some meat for my mom to grill while I work out.  I did go to Libertyville Xsport to meet up with Taylor (who is literally going to be my new best friend), got into a little drama* and was in bed by midnight. Then knocked the FUCK out.

* My ex co workers boyfriend went up to Taylor and started a little small talk with her regarding something about tanning (idk I was working out, so I only heard a little bit of the convo).. so while on the treadmill I saw him again, so it reminded me to text her since I haven’t heard from her in awhile.. the convo went a little like this..

Hey, youre boyfriend is at xsport!
Her: Who is this new phone sorry
Marissa
Her: oh hey! which one?
Libertyville
Her: Did he say anything to you?
No to my friend though
Her: Oh being flirty?
no, just something about tanning I dont know..
Her: Oh okay, so how are you……. blahblahblah

Taylor and I were walking out and as we split ways, I see Nicole’s boyfriend sitting on the curb, and as soon as he sees me he comes up to me, IN MY FACE, and starts bitching at me because I’m causing drama and I said that he was flirting with Taylor and all this fucking bullshit. I was like WTF? I was like are you for real right now? Grow the fuck up. I didn’t do or say shit except  hey your boyfriend is at X sport. Told her you didn’t do shit, check her phone you fucking pansy (insert a SHIT ton more foul language).. I was so pissed at this point.. then he says something like “I don’t want to see you back here.” Are you fucking kidding me right now? UNbelieveable. Lmfao.

Yeah, great relationship that must be.

Anywho.. hope everyone stayed true to themselves and their goals today!

Day 72 Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit.

Okay so I apologize that yesterdays (or what you got today) was pointless.. Mondays and Wednesdays are SUPER draining as it is, and then you add training and  “dieting” and its like wtf. So I was having a semi nervous breakdown this morning (no thanks to my mother, but thats another time), and it seem to carry on to about mid morning. Stupid things were going wrong.. its like I couldn’t fully function lol. I am adding some more carbs (SLIGHTLY nothing drastic, just 1/4 c dry oats after a strenuous working).. I am realizing in class just how important they are, and how few weeks you should go without them. Now don’t get me wrong, I knew carbs (COMPLEX = GREAT CARBS), were good for you (just like GOOD FATS ARE TOO!!!!), but didn’t know how much. Now it does differ with everyone. Honestly, I could tell you what I do, and you guys read what I do, but everyone is different and may not work for you. You could be trying harder than I am and vice versa.. or I ate a few (shit ton) more almonds than you… lol.. there is always going to be different factors (even BMR lololol jk ill shut up now..), but in the end, I think the point is clear…

..GET MOVING AND QUIT EATING SHIT!

Guys sorry for all the rambling but since my instagram account is kinda blowing up a bit, I have been receiving a few questions (which is awesome obviously), but it’s simple and PLEASE do not get into all the equations and shananagins..Do you honestly think that Mcdonald’s is benefiting your weight loss goals? Do your part and make choices that will positively affect your life. You are what you eat remember.. Sorry.. I don’t want to be a piece of shit.

The Food Log

All liquids DRANK! (water and 1 1/2 powerades)

830am Protein Shake (Dymatize, 1/2 water, 1/2 muscle egg, some PB2, ice)

1130am 10…turned into 12-14 almonds. lol (SEE extra calories..so I drank some tea and water a little longer for an actual meal because it seemed to have helped the cravings for food.

230pm Chicken Asparagus MUSTARD!!

505pm Chicken and Mustard and I think 10 more almonds lmfao… sorry.

9pm Protein Shake (Dymatize, Pb2, 1/4c oatmeal, ice) <– LOVE.

The Workout

Incline Chest Press (sat by the 2 cuter boys of the gym on accident).

Took 25’s started and had to put them back.. way to easy…

30 (wanted 35lbs but the whole stack of weights was empty :/)

30lbs x 15 x 1
30lbs x 12 x 2
30lbs x 8 x  1

Then I kind of stopped and looked around because EVERYTHING was taken… I decided that I was going to do triceps and chest (which WORKS out perfectly, because in most excerises you use the same muscles), but because I seemed to have lacked them last work out. So I was looking around and no chest or tricep machine was open.. okay so I was thinking of what to do to improvise, till I notice the free motion “ish” machine was open, and as I was walking up I thought someone said something and I looked back and it was the 2 cuties and he was like “oh, I didn’t say anything” and I apologized and then he asked if I was going to the machine (I was walking up too), and then asked if I wanted to super set with all of them. I don’t normally do that but it was awesome because he spotted me on a few I would have never of gotten. It felt AWESOME… but I have no one to lift with.. :/ lol anywho

Cable Flyes

50lbs x 12 x 1
50lbs x 8 x 1
80lbs x 4 x 1
105lbs x 0 x 0 lol. I couldn’t even more it… so I was like… I;m leaving. And I walked away into the yoga rooms.

Plyo Time..

Box Jumps. Jump Squats. Tricep (BW) Dips.

10 x 10 x 20 x 4

then

5 Min Planks*Arms were killing right here….*

then I left and went to the pec dec 🙂

40-65lbs 8-10 reps

30 Min Stairmaster – Interval HIIT (kinda…..)

Day 72 in Pictures..

  1. My Powerade problem lol.
  2. Want some asparagus with that mustard?
  3. Post Workout Munchie… (salt free cake, protein almond butter, coconut shreds).
  4. Just leaves it out so I can see it… :/
  5. Greek yogurt (plain), mixed with a packet of stevia, and a dollop of PB.. omg. I want to try!!!

Day 70 Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen.

Fuck 70 days already…

and I only think I binged once, and had 3 cheat meals the entire time 🙂 Such an improvement. I am a little nervous as to what happens after the show, but ever since I got into this whole/ natural cooking (thanks to sweetlyvegan, chocolatecoveredkatie and another blog I am forgetting to mention), you come to realize that you can eat GOOD with a little or no preparation. I will cross that bridge when I get to it, but I have this incredible positive energy that came over me a while ago since dieting/training and I think my life has made great changes and will continue to live that way. I like looking healthy. I like feeling good in clothes. The only time I hate getting up (besides ass crack in the morning), is when I feel fat, or am depressed and that usually ALWAYS occurs when I eat like shit and don’t take care of myself.

Anywho.. sorrry. Ha.

The Food Log

10am Protein Pancake w/ a TBS Agave with 1/4c Muscle Egg (it tastes JUST like chocolate milk).

2pm Lean Ground Turkey, a small piece of chicken, asparagus, and broccoli.

6pm More chicken and asparagus. Don’t judge me. lol (I have actually started to love my chicken with yellow mustard. I am in heaven).

8pm More chicken and veggies. Broccoli this time. So. I’m not THAT boring.

Only 4 meals today??????????? I think I ate some almonds in between meals 🙂

The Work Out

Seated Bicep Curl

30lbs x 8 x 3 supersetted w/
20lbs x failure

Incline Bicep Curl

20lbs x 10 x 3 supersetted w/

BB Bicep Concentrated Bicep Curls

30lbs x 8 x 3

Close Grip Bench Press

Bar x 10 x 4 supersetted w/

Bench Dips

BW x 10-12 x 4

*Guy interrupted me for a LONG time. No joke this black guy (no it doesn’t matter he was black lol) was STARRING and like awkwardly starring. Like in awe. But I kept avoiding eye contact. He finally came over, and started a huge conversation. He then left, and no joke my next set came back. Then I left after this to go to plyo work and then found me on the stair master to say goodbye. lol.

PLYO WORK

20 Bosu Ball Jumps x4
Bicep Curl x 10 x4
Tricep Ext x 10 x4
A closer tricep ext x 10 x4

1:30 Min Plank w/ 25 Jump squats x 3

30 Min Stairmaster

50 Abductions/ Adductions

Day 70 in Pictures..

  1. Protein Pancake in the morning 🙂 (1/3c oats, 1/3c Muscle egg, 1/3c cottage cheese).
  2. Chicken Asparagus and Broccoli w/ a tad bit more Parmesan then id like lol
  3. Studying for class… please read Principals of Good Eating.
  4. Meal Prep for the week. Only 2 meals for 5 days, other meals are usually liquid.
  5. Marley doing what she does best.
  6. Not healthy. Commercials make products like this seem healthy. It’s not. Look at how many ingredients there are, and see if you can name them. More so pronounce them. Now.. do you know what they are? Exactly. You’re eating shit.

Today has been pretty good. I honestly relaxed all day. Between blogging, hw, working out, prepping meals, and finding out information about tanning and how I want my hair and makeup, today has been rather long. On a more positive note, I have seemed to have kept my ass intact as of now. I am going to be extra careful with the many hours of cardio to come 🙂 Wish me luck ❤

Simply Shredded – 20 Tips for Torching Fat

20 Tips For Torching Fat: Use These Rules Of Thumb To Help You Get Lean

We’ve compiled 20 nutritional tips to help you burn off your unwanted fat and keep it off.

1. Be Multi-Ogranic

Sure, it’s pricier, but organic beef and dairy are worth the extra bucks. U.K. research shows that organic milk has about 70% more omega-3 fatty acids than conventional milk, and a study published in the Journal of Dairy Science found that grass-fed cows produced milk containing 500% more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) than cows who ate grain.

Since omega-3s and CLA can both help you drop fat as well as gain muscle, it makes sense to shell out the extra cash for organic cheese, cottage cheese, milk, and yogurt as well as grass-fed beef.

2. Slow Down

When you reach for carbs, choose slow-digesting whole grains such as brown rice, oatmeal, and whole-wheat bread, which keep insulin levels low and steady, and prevent insulin spikes from halting fat burning and ramping up fat storage.

A study conducted by researchers at Pennsylvania State University found that men or women following a low-calorie diet with carbs coming only from whole grains lost significantly more abdominal fat than those following a low-calorie diet with carbs from refined sources.

3. Eat Unforbidden Fruit

A study from the Scripps Clinic (San Diego) found that men who ate half a grapefruit or drank 8 ounces of grapefruit juice three times a day lost an average of 4 pounds in 12 weeks, without changing their diet. The effect is likely due to grapefruit’s ability to lower insulin levels, thereby limiting fat storage. To test the effects yourself, try regularly adding half a grapefruit to a few of your daily meals.

4. Egg On You

Eggs are packed with protein and have been shown to promote muscle strength and mass. Research shows that subjects consuming eggs for breakfast not only eat fewer calories throughout the day but also lose significantly more body fat. We recommend eating eggs for breakfast daily, scrambling three whole eggs with three egg whites.

5. Get Fat

Certain fats particularly omega-3s do not lead to fat gain and can actually promote fat loss.

Eating fat to lose fat seems counterintuitive, but if you keep your fat intake at about 30% of your total daily calories by choosing fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, or trout as well as other healthy fat sources such as olive oil, peanut butter, and walnuts, you can actually boost your fat loss when compared with eating a low-fat diet.

6. Milk It

Dairy products are rich in calcium, which can help spur fat loss, particularly around your abs. This may be due to the fact that calcium regulates the hormone calcitriol, which causes the body to produce fat and inhibit fat burning. When calcium levels are adequate, calcitriol and fat production are suppressed while fat burning is enhanced.

Adding low-fat versions of cottage cheese, milk, and yogurt (Greek or plain) to your diet are great ways to boost protein intake and aid fat loss.

7. Go Pro

A high-protein diet not only promotes hypertrophy (muscle growth) but also enhances fat loss. Researchers at Skidmore College found that men who followed a high-protein diet-40% of total daily calories from protein-for eight weeks lost more body fat than those following a low-fat/ high-carb diet. One reason eating more protein may work is that it boosts levels of peptide YY, a hormone that decreases hunger levels.

8. An Apple A Day…

Apples are a great slow-digesting carb with numerous beneficial antioxidants. One group of compounds known as apple polyphenols has been found to boost muscle strength, endurance, and even fat loss, especially around the abs. While apple polyphenols appear to directly improve the body’s ability to burn fat while limiting fat production and storage, the boost in endurance and strength is helpful as well, allowing you to train longer and harder.

A typical large apple provides about 200 milligrams of apple polyphenols and about 30 grams of carbs.

9. Go Nuts

A study from California’s Loma Linda University reported that subjects following a low-calorie, higher-fat diet (40% of total calories from fat) with the majority of fat coming from almonds lost significantly more body fat and abdominal fat in 24 weeks than subjects consuming the same calories but more carbs and less fat. So be sure to include nuts such as almonds, Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and walnuts in your diet.

10. Go Green

The main ingredient in green tea, epigal-locatechin gallate [EGCG), inhibits the enzyme that normally breaks down the neurohormone norepinephrine. Nerepinephrine keeps the metabolic rate up, so preventing its breakdown helps you burn more calories throughout the day.

Drinking green tea is a great way to stay hydrated during workouts, according to a new study in the Journal of Nutrition, which reported that subjects drinking green tea while exercising lost significantly more abdominal fat than those drinking a placebo.

11. Whey Lean

Drinking whey protein as a between meal snack is a smart way to enhance not only muscle growth but also fat loss. U.K. researchers found that when subjects consumed a whey protein shake 90 minutes before eating a buffet-style meal, they ate significantly less food than when they consumed a casein protein shake beforehand. Scientists reported that this was due to whey’s ability to boost levels of the hunger blunting hormones cholecystokinin and glucagonlike peptide-1.

12. Go Fish

As mentioned in tip No. 5, the essential omega-3 fats in fish oil promote fat loss, which is enhanced with exercise.

This is also true for fish-oil supplements containing omega-3 fats. For the best burn, take 1-2g of fish oil at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

13. Add Some Guac

Avocados are full of monounsaturated fat, which isn’t usually stored as body fat. They also contain mannoheptulose, a sugar that blunts insulin release and enhances calcium absorption. Keeping insulin low and getting plenty of calcium is critical for encouraging fat loss.

Try adding a quarter of an avocado to salads and sandwiches.

14. Get Energized

Certain energy drinks have been shown to boost fat loss. University of Oklahoma researchers reported in a 2008 study that when 60 male and female subjects consumed a diet energy drink containing 200mg of caffeine and 250mg of EGCG from green tea extract for 28 days, they lost more than a pound of body fat without changing their diets or exercise habits.

15. Not So Sweet

Even though artificially sweetened drinks are calorie free, drinking too many can hinder your fat loss. It seems that beverages like diet soda mess with your brain’s ability to regulate calorie intake, causing you to feel hungrier than normal, so you eat more total calories.

Other research suggests that the sweet taste of these drinks can increase the release of insulin, which can blunt fat burning and enhance fat storage.

16. Go Even Greener

The majority of studies showing the effectiveness of green tea for fat loss have used green tea extract. One study confirmed that the EGCG from the extract was absorbed better than the EGCG from the tea.

Take about 500mg of green tea extract in the morning and afternoon before meals.

17. In The Black

Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the same plant, but different processing causes black and oolong teas to lose their green color and turn either brown or black. Oolong tea has been shown to enhance metabolic rate due to polyphenols other than EGCG. Black tea may also aid fat loss: Researchers from University College London found that drinking black tea regularly can reduce levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that encourages fat storage especially around the midsection.

18. Be Aqua Man

German researchers have shown that drinking about 2 cups of cold water can temporarily boost metabolic rate by roughly 30%. The effect appears to be mainly due to an increase in norepinephrine.

19. Spice It Up

Hot Peppers contain the active ingredient capsaicin, a chemical that has been shown to promote calorie burning at rest as well as reduce hunger and food intake. Its effects are particularly effective when paired with caffeine-in fact: research shows that the pair can significantly boost fat burning during exercise, Try adding crushed red pepper, hat peppers, or hot pepper sauce to your meals to burn extra calories and fat. If you can’t stand the heat, consider taking a supplement that contains capsaicin instead.

20. Say Soy-Anara To Fat

Soy protein is a proven fat burner. In fact, in a 2008 University of Alabama study, researchers found that guys drinking 20g of soy daily for three months lost a significant amount of abdominal fat.

The effect appears to be due to soy’s ability to decrease hunger levels.
